Odin
di Costa Rubea was born on
25 04 1999 from QUARAH V. WULFTEN by ZORRO
V. HOPER MOOR. His well-balanced character was
immediately evident, and this encouraged Fabrizio to start his
training at three months. After finishing basic training
(sit, lie, fetch...), he started training in the field. At the
end of February he was given to FRITZ
BIRKENEDER
to
take part in German trials. In October ODIN
returned to Italy having obtained the following results: VJP
66 pt
- HEGEWALD
217 points
second place for shape
sg (10) and coat v (12),
VGP
319 points
(1°Preis) Bringselverweiser (TF) (onhe Gehorsam Haarwild).
With his German adventure finished, Odin took part in the
Italian HUNTING
season
in Lomellina , Lombardy, where he continued to maintain and
consolidate everything he had learned to date about blood
tracking.
In
2000 two further Drahthaars were born that we reared; TOSKA di
Costa Rubea and his brother, born from QUIRRA v. WULFTEN by
ZORRO v. HOPER-MOOR, CROLL born from the world champion in
beauty BROOKE and the social champion CAM of Casa Baboni. A
further two were born in 2001; ZEUS
di Costa Rubea
born from LAIKA v. OECHTRINGER-FORST by ODIN di Costa Rubea, and
ANKA
v. ERTHAL
born from PINA v. WULFTEN by DARKO v. OECHTRINGER-FORST and have
been trained for base commands and started the hunting activity.
We
have followed in Germany the performances achieved by other
known Italian dogs, the brothers TASSO, TINA
and our TESSA
di Costa Rubea,
OLF and SARO di Costa Rubea), whose results we have omitted,
here as they are covered elsewhere on this site.
Also
our own ODIN
di Costa Rubea acquired during this period a year of hunting
experience, both on the fields of the ATC (Hunting District) "4
Mede Lomellina" in the province of Pavia, and completed an
unforgettable trip to Rumania. Here, in the presence of natural
game, immersed and defended in grounds extremely fit for
hunting, Odin revealed all his potentiality on quartering with a
perfect breed style, full gallop and a more or less wagging, but
continuous, tail movement, an essential endowment of endurance
on fatigue (often after seven uninterrupted hours of hunting,
performed with the greatest concentration and care for four
consecutive days), hare and roebuck's trail that raised
casually, not seen by the dog, that lasted sometimes over 2 Km,
great pointings and the usual retrievings to whom he got us used
since he was a puppy.
ODIN
was used on all the types of game existing in our countries
(ducks, pheasant, quails, moorhens, hares and some snipes), and
was used above all as a pointing dog, but also showed to be
extremely useful even as a retriever of dead and wounded ducks
in drains and in rice fields, during the evening waitings in
September. He has followed us also in the ungulates hunting
(male roebucks in Slovenia in May and females in province of
Forlì in January), but luckily we never needed his
intervention on blood tracks.
ODIN
had by now become a friend for us, an inevitable presence in
our hunting adventures, but then fate intervened. We had
already suffered at her hands with the premature death of Odins
mother, the unforgettable QUARAH v. WULFTEN, but now she dealt
us another blow with the totally unexpected death of Odin
himself. In October 2006, on a hot Tuscan afternoon, at the
conclusion of a long and tiring day hunting, Odin was taking
refreshment in a little pond, from which he went out after few
minutes staggering and dropping down dead on the ground. A
heart attack struck him down in only the sixth year of his life,
without having ever previously needed the veterinarian.
With Odin has gone away a really great slice of wonderful times and dog/hunting experiences that will forever remain in our memory. However on a brighter note we do have Odins progeny to keep his and his mothers memory alive. He sired four puppies, three with LAIKA v. OECHTRINGER-FORST: ZEUS, ZAR and ZITA di Costa Rubea, and one with BURGL v. TAUBMOOS: VOX di Costa Rubea. These are dogs with excellent structure, high quality coat with an excellent pigment, extremely levelheaded characters and with a natural game predisposition both on the ground and in the water. The new owners of these bitches have phoned us many times to describe to us their morphological qualities, their characters and hunting exploits, and for this we are very thankful. Even Odin, as his mother Quarah vom Wulften, has prematurely left us; unfortunately the destiny hasn't been very merciful towards him. After the conclusion of a tiring hunting day in Tuscany, in a really hot afternoon of october, Odin was looking for refreshment in a little pond, from which he went out after few minutes staggering and dropping down dead on the ground. An heart attack hit him on the sixth year of his life, without having ever previously need the veterinarian. With Odin has gone away a really great slice of wonderful memories and dog/hunting experiences, that will be for ever impressed in our memory. |
